Sports & Education for a better future!
Finally our astro turf is starting its journey from Germany to India!
After a long period of waiting and looking for sponsors, our astro turf is finally starting his journey from Bremen to our Hockey Village in India. The sand filled turf from Bremer Hockey Club has spend its last 12 years in Germany and is now ready to move to its new home India. Martin Schultze from Bremer HC mentioned already in the summer of 2012 that he is willing to donate the artificial grass to our Hockey Village once the new turf will come to their Club in spring 2013. Since that time we were looking for sponsors and Bosco Menezes from the Wanderers Qatar, who is a great fan and supporter of our project connected us with GAC (Gulf Agency Co.Qatar), who were ready to support the transport with 3000 USD. Thanks for that noble cause!
With the help of Chritoph Plass and hockey.de we found Bernd Schuckmann from 53 Grad, who was the one who put all things together and arranged the transport for us. Still – 6500 Euro are missing for the shipping and the customs charge – so please, whoever wants to help fulfilling the dreams of our Hockey kids – step forward and donate some money.
On 30.04.2013, 55 rolls of astro turf in 2 container will leave for Hamburg harbor and from there they will be on the ship until Mumbai. There the freight goes to Delhi where it will pass the customs. There we have good support from the Sports Ministry who was very helpful to pass all the papers. From Delhi the astro turf will go by road to our village and we hope that by that time (which is end of may), the sports ground will be ready to unload the turf and roll it out. The kids in the village are impatient and cannot wait to finally play on artificial ground and improve their skills and fitness. Thanks to all who made that happen! Our Hockey life will be so much easier and more successful from now onwards!
Thanks, thanks, thanks!
Exciting ‘Hockey Dhamal Series’ this week end in Delhi
A new concept involving two hockey teams promoted by two Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) will see the light of the day this week end.
One Thousand Hockey Legs, flagship project of Delhi based Hockey Citizen Group and will engage Under-14 boys team of Garh Himmat Singh (2 hours east of Jaipur) – promoted by German based Hockey Village India e.V. – in four matches in different venues in Delhi.
The matches will be held one each in the morning, other in the evening. The visiting team will stay in Delhi on 13th and 14th July to play these matches.
“This is an exciting prospect where youngsters are given chance to play against others” said K. Arumugam, founder and CEO of One Thousand Hockey Legs, which seek to introduce 500 school children into the game of hockey in select five cities.
“We are happy to get this opportunity and experience to play in India’s capital! The boys are lining up in front of my door since days to get selected for this tour” Echoed Andrea Thumshirn, promoter of Hockey Village India.
“We propose to field four different teams so that many Delhi kids get the opportunity”, K. Arumugam adds.
“We are bringing 15 boys, whom we introduced hockey last year only, they are excited to visit Delhi. Ours is a village team, we have no proper play field. This tour will give these under-privileged kids a great chance to play on proper hockey fields, and also to meet other hockey players. This will go a long way in cherishing our objectives, as there is high potential in Indian villages”, Andrea elaborates.
This is perhaps first time two NGOs working to promote hockey in different State come forward to have a Series.
These two NGOs also announced the tour will take place annually in a specified time.
Helping others to help themselves is our device!
Everybody has a right to education - but not everybody has the oportunity!
Therefore it is our aim to support rural areas in India and give the children a chance for a better education.
We provide free english classes in the afternoon - then we bring them to our new hockey ground where we provide sticks to play.
Volunteers in the village take care of the classes and provide the necessary infrastructure for the children.
Our target is, to involve the villagers as much as we can so that they can take over the project one day...
Indian National player and FIH player Sardar Singh is the new ambassador of the village!!
Why Hockey?
Hockey is India's national sport - even if Cricket became much more popular over the years. If you look at Indian villages you can see why - 20 kids can play cricket with a ball and a piece of wood while you need 20 sticks to make them play hockey.
Talking about international level India is running behind his glorious hockey past - the country has hardly any astro turfs and at the top of the hockey country 2 associations are fighting for the rulership - ignoring that all is about sports - not politicians...
But nevertheless we know from our own experience as sportsmen how amazing it is to be part of a sports team – to have the sportsmen spirit – the team spirit! To fight together - for eachother,
to win and sometimes even loose... What makes you more happy then winning an important match? Sportsmen know that!
How good does it feel to achieve something - for yourselve and for the team - to fight for a common target - to go to your limits and with discipline and self
motivation get better and better - these are important values in life and sport can teach us.
Just like education we are more then ready to share our experiences - and if you see the twinkling eyes of a child and its proud when it scores its first
goal, there are no more questions to ask!
